How do you design a ride-hailing app for the Latino community?

Tllevo is a ride-hailing app from a company that operates in the Maryland and Washington D.C. area, and it states its promise right on the home screen: ¡Comunidad 100% Latina! We designed the entire product experience, from the first time the app is opened to paying for the ride.

The brief was not to copy the big names in the category. It was to design an app in which a Spanish-speaking rider recognizes themselves — clear language, large touch targets and a flow that never asks for more than one decision at a time.

Built for the first ride, not the hundredth

People open a ride-hailing app in a hurry: late, with their hands full or standing on a street they don't know. So every screen had to make sense at a glance. A taxi yellow that is understood before reading a single word, a deep blue that leaves the map as the brightest thing on the screen, and a single primary action per step: verify your phone, choose where you're going, pick the vehicle, confirm. Each category shows arrival time, seats and price on one line, so riders can decide in seconds.

From the empty map to the receipt: every state designed

The prototype covers the complete journey, including the states that are almost always skipped: sign-up and phone verification, the home map with saved places, destination search, the Preferencial and Confortable categories with the tllevo and tllevo family vehicles, the wait while a driver is assigned, messaging with the driver during the trip, trip history with ratings, the account, payment methods and the help center with emergency access.

It was delivered as an interactive Figma prototype on a consistent component library, so the flow could be tested with real riders and handed to development without ambiguity.
